Welcome to Auntie Sandy Rants

Aunt Rants?

The world has stopped turning on its axis.  I’m now old.  I’m set in my ways.  There is no filter.  I’m tired of having to see the other person’s way of thinking.  I’m tired of compromising and negotiating my opinions.  I’m tired of other people, mostly strangers, telling me what to do and how to think.  So from here on in, I’m going to tell them so.  I’m going to tell them in person, and I’m going to tell the world in this blog.  I’ve only got about 20 years of coherent thought left (much shorter if Mrs. Alzheimer comes calling), so I’d better get to it.

How did I get to this stage?

We come into this world small and helpless and full of wonder. Like a sponge, we absorb everything around us. We absorb colours and movements and smells and sounds. Our first connection to the world is via the voices of people to whom we are most dependent. They’re telling us what we need to know and how we should think. Those voices grow in numbers throughout our lives. They become our extended family, our friends, our religious leaders, our teachers, our co-workers, our bosses, the media.

Sometime early in our lives, we as individuals begin to assert our own independence and thoughts and spend our lifetime trying to balance our independent thinking with the thinking of people around us. We spend most of our years on this earth cajoling, mediating, negotiating, refereeing, arguing, soothing and mostly, just trying to get along with people.

The time has come for me where enough is enough. Since my retirement from 40+ years of working, I’ve been able to reflect, and I’ve come to the conclusion that sometimes there is no middle ground. In many instances, life is black & white – thus the colour theme of this blog.

Donkey of the Week

animated donkeyHere is where I will feature someone whose actions or words (or lack thereof) cause them to be worthy of this award.

Visit the Donkey Drove page for a complete listing of award ‘weiners’ and to cast your vote for Donkey of the Month.

Sometimes, people and their actions are just plain stupid. And the world needs to know about it. So, because I have the time and the energy—and have the services of Charlie, my full-time blog consultant (unpaid)—I’m puttin’ it out there. Welcome to my world.

Stuff I Like to Write About

Each section of my blog is a reflection of what I think. Of course my rants will fill What Were They Thinking?. No subject is safe. Also, Donkey of the Day highlights an exceptionally ridiculous individual (or group) who requires special attention. I hope you take time to vote for your monthly favorite. In You Can’t Make Up This Shit, I want to point out how truly crazy our world is – and we’re supposed to make sense of it? I Love Baseball and Travels With Charlie are my way of trying to make sense of this world. They’re my escape from crazy. And finally, the Salmagundi section. I particularly like this new word I learned. This section is as it states, a mish-mash of mush – anything and everything goes here that doesn’t fit above.
